What We Are
UCMA (United Composite Manufacturers Association,
Inc.) is an organization of composite fabricators and users of traditional
FRP products. Operating autonomously, members have joined together to
enhance their collective competitiveness and to address important industry
issues affecting their survival and continued prosperity. In general,
UCMA Members are non-marine fabricators, as distinguished from UCMA’s
sister organization, United Marine Manufacturers Association (UMMA), the
largest organization of boat builders in the marine industry. A boat builder
is not precluded from UCMA Membership however.
Corporate Information
UCMA was formally launched in July 2003 after
more than four years of laying groundwork by the UMMA organization. UMMA
was forced to fight very hard with suppliers to overcome their concern
for its growing influence over the marine and the potential impact upon
other composite sub-industries. UCMA has faced many of the same challenges
in gaining recognition from the composites industry that UMMA had to fight
in securing acceptance from the marine industry. The defining event was
UMMA’s parent decision to pledge its own volume to this project
by establishing its own product name brands, independent sourcing, and
a distribution strategy for composites materials. Without this base of
capability, it is entirely possible that UCMA could not have entered into
existence.
The operation of the Association has been established as completely autonomous
from its Membership. The Association President and operational contracting
party, Kent Wooldridge, also serves as UCMA's attorney. UCMA's corporate
office is located in Springfield, Missouri, along with UMMA’s headquarters.
Mr. Wooldridge also acts as a legal representative for the related companies,
so all Members are treated as clients and, as such, all confidential information
is treated as privileged.
